FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How long does the battery last?
Anywhere from 3.5 to 5 hours depending on how you play.

Q: How long does it take to recharge the battery?
Approximately 1hr and 20 minutes.

Q: Is there a battery indicator?
Yes, there is an LED light showing battery status.

Q: What happens if the battery dies mid-performance?
BackBeat has a true bypass feature so the output is not affected if the unit is off or if the battery dies.

Q: Is the battery replaceable?
The battery is custom made for BackBeat and is not replaceable by the user. It is able to be recharged thousands of times. There will be a refurbishment option available in the future.

Q: Can I use BackBeat while charging?
No. Plugging the BackBeat to the charger will disable all functions.

Q: Will I be able to charge BackBeat in a non-US country?
Yes, each BackBeat will have an AC/DC adaptor and adaptor as required.

Q: Can you feel the clips on your back?
No. There is no sensation on your back other than the strap that is holding your bass.

Q: Are the mounting clips reversible for lefties?
Yes, just unscrew and remount the clips to your preference.

Q: Does it work with guitar?
Yes it can however the response is limited to the subwoofer frequency range only. BackBeat was made for bass players in mind because of the lack of tactile feedback monitoring in the subwoofer frequency range. This range also crosses over with lower (E and A) strings on an electric guitar, and with 7-string guitars. However, BackBeat will not shake across the full guitar range. We are working on a BackBeat version for guitarists who play only with IEMs.

Q: Does it work with passive basses?
Yes, however in its current configuration the response is not as strong as with active basses.

Q: Does it work drums, synth bass, or double bass?
BackBeat will work with any electrical signal sent to its input. If your double bass has a pickup that generates an electrical signal, BackBeat will shake at frequencies below around 150-200Hz. If you have an electric drum set or mic-ed drums, you can send a mixed signal to BackBeat and you will feel your kick drum, toms etc.

TIPS AND TRICKS

Charging
Make sure your unit is charged before a gig! You will know the battery is getting low if the thump becomes irregular. Note that due to the true-bypass nature of BackBeat, your signal to the house, amp, etc will be unaffected. If your unit dies during a performance, you will *think* you sound quieter because you've lost the tactile sensation of BackBeat.

Attaching BackBeat to your strap
The mounting straps are very tight to ensure BackBeat stays on your strap. If you have a thicker strap use a butter knife to get it on or get someone to help. You may just want to leave BackBeat on your strap to charge.

Taking off your bass
BackBeat is an added mass to the middle of your strap. When you take off your bass make sure it doesn't swing into your bass. You can hold your strap in one hand and bass in the other and set it carefully in your bass stand.

Resonance
You may experience feedback or resonance at certain notes on your instrument. This will vary depending on your mass, bass type, BackBeat rumble settings, strap thickness etc. You can adjust your rumble setting to minimize this. Also be conscious of muting strings or turning down the volume when you're not playing.

Cable Management
Routing cables will depend on your bass, jack locations, preference etc. Ensure your connections are secure around your strap or bass/strap connection points to avoid pulling out a 1/4" cable mid performance.

Sitting Down
If you're not standing playing bass and sitting, you can attach BackBeat to your pants belt. This is also applicable to keyboard players and drummers.

Music monitoring
If you're using BackBeat to feel music you're hearing, you can remove the clips. When rumbling the clips can make noise if they're not attached to something like a belt or strap.
